Biography

Martina Barlotta, classical guitarist from Tuscany born in 1996, “shows great experience and a captivating presence on stage”(Uppsala International Guitarrfest – 2016); “ Over and above her technical ability, she is to be appreciated for her expressionist ability and an unexpected scenic presence in an artist of only 19 years old” – M. She started her guitar studies in 2002, at the age of six, with M. Mirko Pieri. In 2007, at middle school, she met M. Fabio Montomoli, continuing her studies at the “Istituto Musicale Comunale P. Giannetti” in Grosseto. In 2010 she was accepted, having coming first, at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome, where she studied under the guide of M. Arturo Tallini.

In 2015, when she was 19, she graduated in Classical Guitar at Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music, with maximum marks, laude and honour.

From July 2012 to July 2015 she continued to perfect her studies at the famous “Accademia Musicale Chigiana” in Siena where she attended advanced courses under the guide of M. Oscar Ghiglia, always obtaining diplomas with merit and performing in the final concert for four consecutive years.

In June 2015 she is accepted as first in the merit results to the Master in Konzertfach guitar instrumental at the “Universität Mozarteum” in Salzburg, where in October 2018 under the tuition of M. Marco Tamayo she got the Master’s Degree with full marks. In Mozarteum she studies contemporary music with M. Simone Fontanelli, chamber music with M. Isabel Siewers and M. Laura Young, ancient music with M. Marco Testori. In July 2019 she completed the Post-Graduate course at Universität Mozarteum.

At present, Martina is improving her skills under the guidance of M. Carlo Marchione.

From October 2015 to June 2017 she further perfected her performance at the “Segovia Guitar Academy” in Pordenone (Italy), attending the two-year master in guitar held by M. Paolo Pegoraro and M. Adriano del Sal.

Winner of the study grants at “Campus delle Arti” 2013 and 2014, with prize concerts, the prize of the audience and recording and editing sessions at the famous recording company Musiktrasse in Rome.

In May 2015 she won one of the four study grants offered by the “Ministry for Education, University and Research” for the “Premio Claudio Abbado”, established to “valorise the excellence of High level Artistic Training”.

In June 2015 she was given a “Mention of Honour” for her rendering of the “Sequenza XI” for guitar by Luciano Berio at the 36th International Competition for Interpretation of Contemporary Music “Valentino Bucchi”, in Rome at the “Parco della Musica” Auditorium.

In October 2015 the Association “La Nuova Arca” honoured her, with a ceremony-concert in the Rectorate Aula Magna of the University of Turin, the International Prize “Arca d’Oro” Italy Young Talents 2015, a recognition given her by the great viola da gamba player, conductor and Master of ancient music Jordi Savall.

In 2016 and 2017 the “Segovia Guitar Academy” presented her with a study grant given only to students who have distinguished themselves for their studies, talent and results obtained regarding the year of perfection.

In November 2016, as winner of the “International Guitar Festival Sanremo” – “Premio Casinò di Sanremo 2015”, she played the “Concerto in La Maggiore” for guitar and orchestra by Mauro Giuliani, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Sanremo, conducted by M. Michele Spotti.

In the same month she holds a concert in Nuoro, Sardinia, for the second time after having been selected among 50 guitarists.

In December 2016 she played the “Sequenza XI for Guitar” by Luciano Berio at the “Universität Mozarteum” in Salzburg in a concert organised by M. Simone Fontanelli. After M. Marco Tamayo, who played the “Sequenza” for the very first time at the “Universitat Mozarteum” in the presence of Luciano Berio, Martina has been the second person to play it.

Martina has been the first Italian guitarist to be invited to the Greek island Santorini to hold a duet concert and as a soloist in March 2017.

Martina played the premiere of “Algo, due pezzi per chitarra” by Franco Donatoni in “Universitat Mozarteum” in May 2017.

In March 2018, in Salzburg, at “Universität Mozarteum”, she played Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo, as soloist accompanied by Orchestra of Students of Universität Mozarteum conducted by Kristina Pernat.

She published her first album in July 2018 with the title of “Mirrors”. The CD includes a piece wrote for her by M. Simone Fontanelli.

In October 2018, in Salzburg, Solitär hall in Universität Mozarteum, she held the solo recital for Master’s Degree graduation, performing successively J.S. Bach Partita n.2 BWV 1004 for violin under transcription by Martina Barlotta, L. Brouwer Sonata n.1, J. Rofrigo Concierto de Aranjuez accompanied by the string quartet Ensemble Semble.

 

She held her first solo recital before turning the age of 14 and has ever since played more than 50 solo concerts in Italy, Portugal, France, Greece, Poland, Spain, Germany and Austria.

She has accumulated effective experience in orchestral music, with several concerts accompanied by orchestra in Rome, Florence, Sanremo and Salzburg.

Martina regularly performs in chamber music ensembles, with guitar, flute, violin, cello, string quartet, thanks to studies conducted with M. Isabel Siewers, M. Laura Young and M. Marco Testori.

She also gained great experience in the field of contemporary music with M. Arturo Tallini and with M. Simone Fontanelli, both as a soloist and in groups.

Many prizes gained in national and international competition including in particular: Concorso Nazionale Riviera Etrusca (Absolute First), Concorso Nazionale di Esecuzione Musicale “Giulio Rospigliosi” (First Absolute), Concorso Internazionale  di Chitarra Città di Fiuggi (First prize), Concorso Internazionale “Accademia Musicale Romana” (Absolute First), International Competition “Alirio Diaz” Young Guitarists Rome (First Absolute), International Guitar Festival Sanremo “Premio Casinò di Sanremo”, Claxica 2016 Competition of Execution (Second prize), Borguitar Festival (Third prize), Alessandria “49th International Guitar Competition Michele Pittaluga” (prize assigned by Inner Wheel, a female organization of outstanding tradition, as best female guitarist classified at the competition), “Uppsala International Gitarrfest” (Third prize).

She has held numerous concerts and performances at exhibitions, among which the following can be cited: Basilica Santa Maria in Aracoeli in Campidoglio (Rome), Conservatory of Music Santa Cecilia (Rome) accompanied by the orchestra of the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia conducted by M. Giuseppe Lanzetta, Bracciano, Circolo di Montecitorio in Rome (club of employees of House of Representatives of Italian Parliament), Eurasburg – Kloster Beuerberg (Germany),  El Barraco – Avila (Spain), Formello, Galleria Parmeggiani in Reggio Emilia, Lago D’Orta (Pettenasco), Orsanmichele Museum (Florence) accompanied by Toscana Classica Orchestra,  Milan, Munich (HofTheater), Nuoro, Piazzola sul Brenta, Porto and Braga (Portugal), Paris (France), Sassari, Sanremo “Casinò di Sanremo” accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of Sanremo conducted by M. Michele Spotti, Salzburg (Solitär and Wiener Saal), Santorini (Greece), Stettin-Szczecin and Danzig-Gdańsk (Poland), Taranto, Tortona, Venice (Palazzo Cavagnis).

Martina plays a guitar made by M. Luthier Simon Marty (Sidney) and one by M. Luthier Alessandro Marseglia (Naples).

Moreover, Martina in April 2021 graduated in Linguistics (Bachelor of Science) with honors from the “Paris Lodron Universität” in Salzburg. Since end 2021 she works in human resources field as HR counselor for Poolia Deutschland GmbH in Munich.
